Getting your pension paid in the Philippines

United States

Social Security

Yes. Social Security can be paid straight into a bank in the Philippines by international direct deposit, but only into a Philippine peso (PHP) account at a local bank.

United Kingdom

State Pension

It can be paid into a bank in the Philippines or a UK account. The UK has a social security agreement with the Philippines, and GOV.UK lists the Philippines among the countries where the State Pension goes up every year.

Canada

Old Age Security

Paid while you live outside Canada if you lived in Canada for at least 20 years after age 18. Canada and the Philippines have a social security agreement, in force since March 1, 1997: periods credited under the Philippine pension program (SSS or GSIS) count as residence in Canada when you qualify for OAS.

The Philippines taxes its resident citizens on worldwide income, but foreigners, resident or not, only on income from sources within the Philippines. A pension, dividends or rent from abroad are outside it. The income tax scale:

What US citizens still report

US citizens file a US return on worldwide income wherever they live; the US has an income tax treaty with the Philippines, which can decide which country taxes some income. Two reports cover money held abroad:
