Sources
A fact on a country page must come from a primary source:
- the law, decree or regulation, from the official gazette or the government's own legal database;
- the immigration, consular, tax or social security authority;
- the national statistics office, a ministry or the central bank;
- a hospital's own site or an accreditor's list;
- international data: the World Bank, the US State Department, the IRS, the Social Security Administration, GOV.UK and Canada.ca.
For tax scales we also accept PwC Worldwide Tax Summaries when a tax authority's page cannot be read. Blogs, forums and marketing pages are not sources.
Dates
Every source in a page's source list shows the date we last checked it, or the date the source itself was updated. The year in a page title is the year of its latest check.
What we leave out
If we cannot find a figure in a primary source, the page does not show it. We do not estimate rents, doctor's fees or insurance prices; where a budget needs them, the page asks for your own numbers. When a law sets no amount, the page says so instead of borrowing one from another rule.
Amounts and currencies
Amounts appear in the currency the source uses, with an approximate US dollar value at reference rates from the European Central Bank or the US Treasury. The conversion is a guide; the source's amount is the rule.

Guides and comparisons without a source list are earlier articles that are being moved to this format. Where they disagree with a country page, the country page is the current one.

Tell us what is wrong and where at hello@earlyretireabroad.com. We check the source, fix the page and update its date.

Advertising and affiliate links pay for the site. They do not decide which countries, visas or services a page covers, or what it says about them. Affiliate links are marked as sponsored; see the affiliate disclosure.
