Getting your pension paid in Ecuador

United States

Social Security

Yes. Social Security can be paid straight into a bank in Ecuador by international direct deposit: Ecuador is on SSA's list of direct deposit countries, through a multi-country bank contract.

SSA POMS. Checked Oct 8, 2026.

United Kingdom

State Pension

It can be paid to you in Ecuador, but Ecuador is not on GOV.UK's list of countries where the State Pension goes up every year, so it stays at the rate you first receive there.

GOV.UK. Checked Oct 8, 2026.

Canada

Old Age Security

Paid while you live outside Canada if you lived in Canada for at least 20 years after age 18. Canada and Ecuador signed a social security agreement on June 24, 2024, but it is not yet in force, so time in Ecuador does not count toward OAS for now.

Canada.ca. Checked Oct 8, 2026.

Other countries: check whether your pension can be paid abroad, whether it keeps rising with inflation there, and whether your country has a social security agreement with Ecuador.

How Ecuador taxes you

You are tax resident in Ecuador after more than 183 days in a fiscal year, or in any 12 months across two years. Residents, Ecuadorian or foreign, are taxed on income generated abroad, so a foreign pension and other foreign income count at the progressive rates of 0% to 37%; tax paid abroad on that income is credited up to the Ecuadorian tax on it. Interest on savings accounts is exempt. Since January 2024, people who were not tax resident before can, under conditions, use a temporary tax residence regime and pay tax only on Ecuadorian-source income for 5 years.
