Social Security

Yes. Social Security can be paid straight into a bank in the Dominican Republic by international direct deposit: the country is on SSA's list of direct deposit countries.

Old Age Security

Paid while you live outside Canada if you lived in Canada for at least 20 years after age 18. Canada has no social security agreement with the Dominican Republic, so time there does not count toward OAS.

How the Dominican Republic taxes you

You are tax resident after more than 182 days in the country in a calendar year. The Dominican Republic taxes income from Dominican sources; income from abroad is generally not taxed, except income from foreign investments and financial gains, which new residents pay tax on only after their third year. On top of that, Law 171-07 exempts from income tax the pension or income a pensionado or rentista declared to qualify, and exempts taxes on their dividends and interest, from the country or abroad, while the residence permit is valid. From 2027 the brackets rise, with the 0% band up to RD$480,000 and a new 27% band above RD$4.8 million. The income tax scale:
